Tree Dismantling
Using professional aerial techniques to remove a tree in confined spaces. The technique involves dismantling the tree in smaller sections that can be controlled into specific drop zones to protect assets or public health.
Tree Felling
This technique is used on trees in open spaces, whereby the tree will be felled from its base. This technique is also used on valuable timber that can be repurposed and milled to create products.
Crown Reduction and Thinning
Tree reduction, or crown reduction is used in arboriculture to reduce the crown of the tree while maintaining its shape. This reduces tree size, allows more light through and limits root growth protecting driveways, foundations, footings, drainage & pathways. There are many reasons why trees might need pruning. These reasons could include improving the structure of the tree, to remove dangerous or defective branches; the reduction of shading, the reduction of wind loading or to provide clearance between the tree and a structure – to name just a few.
Hedge Management
This involves trimming and reductions to hedges, reductions can also be used to increase the density of the lower sections of the hedge, providing more security or screening on boundaries.
All work is carried out to the British Standard for tree work (BS 3998: 2010 Tree Work – Recommendations)
Trees and hedges can be valuable assets providing security, wildlife habitation and an attractive outlook. When planting young trees it is essential that they are planted correctly, using an experienced contractor at this stage ensures the young trees and hedges have every opportunity to prosper. Planting should take place between November and March.
Potted – These will be trees and hedges that have been grown in a nursery environment for up to 3-4 seasons and are usually more established plants, these can be used to create an instant hedge.
Root ball – Similarly to potted trees and hedges, these will have been grown in open space and have been allowed to develop for several years, ensuring a good foliage structure and healthy, sturdy root system.
Bare root – These plants are classed as dormant or not actively growing, they are juvenile plants in first or second season, for a large area these are cost effective plants, providing you are able to give them the time to flourish.
Planting methods include trench planting and bore hole planting. Trench planting is specifically used for potted and root ball trees and hedges. The digging of a trench allows the contractor to analyse the soil and replace as necessary to improve the nutritional value of the ground or to alter the PH levels around the root system. This method also encourages even drainage. Bore hole planting is used for bare root planting as the roots are not as established and require less room for planting.
Once planted, maintenance in the first few years is imperative to ensure establishment and survival.
Check stakes and prune out broken and diseased branches
Loosen ties as the tree and hedges grow and remove the stake altogether when the tree is stable
Clear vegetation from around the base
Add water when required
Stumps can be removed in two methods; ground out using a stump grinder or dug out using an excavator.
A stump grinder chews away at the stump using a powerful rotor blade that rips into the wood as it turns. They vary in size and are selected depending on the size of the stump or the volume of stumps needing to be removed. They can be as small as 13hp personnel operated machines or up to 400hp tractor mounted stump grinders. A stump grinder typically makes less mess than digging the trees out.
An excavator is used in large open spaces, this method is recommended for a full area clearance, roots and all. An excavator must be handled by an NPORS qualified and experienced individual. Both Chris and Callum hold this qualification.

Tree Protection Orders
Countryside Trees can provide you with the expertise and support with all relevant paperwork and applications. A site inspection must be completed initially to understand the work that is recommended.
We own a large range of machinery to undertake large site clearance efficiently and safely. Health and safety is a top priority of Countryside Trees so risk assessments and method statements are completed, ensuring a safe working practice.
Utility Arboriculture Management
Utility networks such as electricity supplies, railways, waterways and telecommunication networks require constant vegetation management to ensure continuity of supply and a safer environment for the general public. It is essential to maintain a critical infrastructure and is a legal requirement for distribution networks.
We are approved contractors for UK Power Networks. Our Surveyors that assess all work requirements for Utility Arboriculture sites hold NPTC UA5 qualifications for surveying. Our teams of Utility Arborists are qualified to NPTC UA2-3, hold NPTC Chipper certificates, NPTC Mobile Elevated Work Platform Certificates and Street Works Certificates to ensure that every team is competent to deliver the high standard of service we provide on a daily basis.
During bad weather, high winds and large amounts of rainfall can de-stablise root systems, cause limb breakouts and trees to fall entirely. Unfortunately this can disturb roads and waterways, as well as causing damage to property.
We are available for 24 hour emergency tree work across Suffolk & Essex. Countryside Trees Lead aborist can quickly asses the best course of action to complete the job safely.
