In order for homes to have electricity, there are power lines that run all around the country, and typically, where there are powerlines there are trees. Over time trees grow in height and canopy width meaning powerlines need to be routinely monitored and vegetation pruned back.
We were asked by UKPN (UK Power Networks) to visit a site that had 28 poplar trees adjacent to the 11kv powerlines, the trees had grown too big and some were now in fact touching the powerlines. In order to safely provide continuity of power, all 28 trees needed to be pollarded.
Qualified UQ5 Surveyors from Countryside Trees planned the works with the support of the landowner and a ‘power shutdown’ was agreed.
Countryside Trees used a number of spider Mobile Elevated Work Platforms (MEWPs) to allow our teams to work from height efficiently and safely. All work was carried out by our approved cutting teams in accordance with British Standards BS3998. (https://www.trees.org.uk/Help-Advice/Public/A-brief-guide-to-tree-work-terminology-and-definit)
All waste was chipped and left neatly, ensuring the land owner was not inconvenienced by the work.
